Two things have really been bothering me this week:
- The knowledge that someone other than me believes they should be able to dictate the number of children it is acceptable for me to give birth to, in accordance with their own arbitrary and subjective measure (in this case, environmental impact).
- The knowledge that someone other than me believes they should be able to decide whether or not it is acceptable for me to end my life, in accordance with their own beliefs as to the value and sanctity of human life.
Life and death - it’s the most significant spectrum anyone could possibly assume the moral high ground on. If someone else makes decisions on your behalf in this domain, regardless of any derivative rights or entitlements you might lay claim to, you can never consider yourself in the least bit free.
